'Play
the Game' was created by the Dragons Rugby Trust in 1996,
when we were commissioned to produce an educational package
to support the teaching of rugby within the national curriculum
for 7-14 year olds.
This
culminated in the production of 'Play the Game,' a unique
bilingual package, that was developed by a team of teachers,
curriculum specialists and WRU coaching experts. It was
designed to meet the needs of non-specialist teachers in
primary schools and those of rugby coaches in secondary
schools and junior sections of rugby clubs.
Its
teacher friendly format of bilingual, weatherproof, step-by-step
illustrated lesson cards, supporting video and skill based
activity cards for pupils, was widely acclaimed throughout
Wales and further afield.
'Play
the Game' has subsequently been adopted by the International
Rugby Board to support the development of the game worldwide.
The Board commissioned the Dragons Rugby Trust to adapt,
translate and produce this resource in ten languages. Multiple
copies have since been distributed to all 93 IRB member
countries.
This
A5, pocket version is now available and is aimed at players
of all ages who wish to develop and measure their individual
and team skills. It is a user-friendly aid for teachers,
coaches and parents to support them in doing so.
The
Dragons Rugby Trust and the International Rugby Board wish
to thank the Medlock Charitable Trust for it's generous
support, which has made this initiative possible.
